The Wine Merchant has launched its annual Survey of Independents.
The survey is our most important project of the year and something we’ve organised since the magazine launched back in 2012.
The results it generates help us put together a really detailed analysis of the state of play in the independent trade.
That’s information that’s incredibly useful for all of us – retailers, suppliers, producers and anyone else connected with the sector.
Last year, more than 200 businesses took part. We’d love to reach those levels again this time.
If you’re a UK-based independent with physical retail premises (even if this isn’t the main element of your trade) please click here to start the survey.
Five participants will be selected at random to win a mixed case from our survey partner Hatch Mansfield.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to do the survey?
Allow 15 to 20 minutes. We know that’s a lot of time but hopefully when you see the results coverage you’ll understand why we ask so many questions!
Do I have to divulge sensitive information?
No. We do have some questions that cover subjects such as turnover and how sales have been performing. But the figures you provide help us work out trends and averages. We’re not going to attribute them to you. Plus you can skip these questions if you prefer.
Will you quote any of my answers?
No – again, we’re looking at the bigger picture. But there are some questions where you have the option to give us permission to quote you. (We’ll invite you to type the word QUOTE before your response so there’s no ambiguity.)
Can anyone complete the survey?
The survey is just for UK-based independent wine merchants with physical retail premises (even if this is not the main element of their business). Responses from other businesses can’t be included, sadly.
My business is very new and/or very small. Do you want my responses?
Absolutely. We aim to represent all types of independent wine merchant at all stages of their development.
Where can I read the results of the survey?
As always there will be extensive coverage in our March and April editions, both in print and online. Plus we’ll bundle all of the results together in a single document which can be downloaded from our website.
