Maisons Marques et Domaines UK has added Barr-Eden Estate to its portfolio, marking the company’s first move into the super-premium Australian wine sector.
The agreement takes effect on September 28 and will see MMD introduce the producer’s Rhône-inspired wines to the UK market. Managing director Richard Billett said the wines offered a distinctive expression of Eden Valley terroir and personality.
Barr-Eden’s 130-acre property is situated on Mengler’s Hill, straddling the Barossa and Eden valleys. Its vineyards stand between 465 and 545 metres above sea level, with the elevation helping to create a cooler, longer growing season than in the nearby Barossa Valley.
Former Michel Chapoutier managing director Pierre-Henri Morel became involved with the estate in 2014, working with Barossa grower Joel Mattschoss. Morel and Michael Twelftree became the property’s sole custodians in 2023, establishing the Love Over Gold estate.
Barr-Eden wines have been on sale in recent times through The Vinorium, the Kent-based specialist importer of Australian wines.
