New managing director for Hatch Mansfield

Hatch Mansfield has appointed Jon Pepper MW as its new chief executive, succeeding founder Patrick McGrath MW, who will become chairman. Both appointments take effect on November 2.

The move follows the departure of managing director Ben Knollys, who left the business on October 1 after 24 years. Knollys, who became MD in 2021, stepped down following a decision to combine the responsibilities of CEO and managing director into a single role. He said the restructuring presented a natural opportunity to pursue fresh challenges in the drinks industry.

Pepper has more than 20 years’ experience in the premium drinks industry, having held senior roles at Buckingham Schenk, Enotria and Stoli Group.

He began his career in luxury goods with L’Oréal and LVMH before moving into wine. He led Buckingham Schenk until 2015, when he joined Enotria as buying and retail director, later becoming chief operating officer. Most recently, he was CEO of Stoli Group’s Tenute del Mondo Wine Group, where he also served as global chief marketing officer.

Pepper said: “The reputation of Hatch, its exceptional portfolio and strong culture precede it. I very much look forward to building on that strong foundation with our producers and customers, and driving growth in the years ahead with such a fantastic team.”

McGrath said the appointment followed a thorough search. “Jon understands the importance of the relationships with our producers and customers, and the team and culture that have shaped Hatch Mansfield. The board and I are confident that Jon’s extensive experience and strategic expertise, as well as his sense of humour, make him the perfect fit to lead Hatch into a new era.”
