Thorman Hunt has taken on UK distribution of Hasher Family Wines, its first South African producer. The Upper Hemel-en-Aarde estate is owned by Belgian couple Frederik Herten and Céline Haspeslagh, who bought the 180-hectare property in 2021.

Hasher combines vineyards with native fynbos and conservation land, with 60 hectares set aside for nature. The vineyards are farmed without herbicides or pesticides and the estate is a WWF Conservation Champion.

Winemaking has been led since 2023 by Natasha Williams, formerly of Bosman Family Vineyards. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the main focus, with Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc also in the range.

Thorman Hunt managing director Simon Thorpe MW said the company had been waiting for the right opportunity to enter South Africa. “What Frederik, Céline and Natasha are creating at Hasher is truly exciting, so finally our wait is over.”

The first UK range comprises six wines, including Marimist Chardonnay, Ernest Pinot Noir and Cyriel Cabernet Franc. They are due to land in late autumn and will be shown first at Thorman Hunt’s September portfolio tastings.
